I like the suggestions it offers and, like you, sometimes I ignore them.

That said, one of my clients, an attorney in a very crowded specialty, has climbed from obscurity to the top 10 in each of its target searches after three years of consistent blogging, the last year of which with Scribe. The firm refuses to do a newsletter or anything besides their blog...and it has been sufficient.

Re: A Modest Proposal To Combine Social Media and Public Relations Into Social Relations

Charlotte, I agree that many PR practitioners still have a long way to go in doing social media well and proving its worth to the c-suite. But it is an exciting challenge that I feel PR people are well suited to embrace.

Re: A Modest Proposal To Combine Social Media and Public Relations Into Social Relations

Brilliant piece here Brandon, I actually run my own social media public relations company called "Social Relations" and this was exactly the thinking behind the name. Hopefully, marketing and PR along with other disciplines can work peacefully under the umbrella of social media but I doubt it. PR has always been about communicating with our client's publics and raising companies reputations, using various channels and now social media is just another channel. This is what we've been doing for years and usually we try and get coverage without buying it, whereas advertising and marketing often buy their OTS. The only thing that worries me is companies are turning to PR agencies to manage their social media and a lot of PR agencies aren't grasping it with two hands yet. I think this amount of fear from CEO's gives PRs an incredibly opportunity and we have to make sure we're ready for it!

Charlotte Pittock-Holdsworth
charlotte@socialrelations.co.uk

Re: How To Write And Promote An EBook The Right Way

BTW, you are welcome to the free copy of my ebook, This Is Your Brain On Twitter. It is still a revolutionary time from that perspective, where anyone has the chance to operate an online business, and do it inexpensively. I was very impressed at the ingenuity of many attendees at the conference.

Good luck to you and see you around town!

Re: Why Mom Bloggers Matter

Thanks for writing this Brandon, I think so often moms who blog are misunderstood. We really are trying to be able to be the parents we want to be but have a traditional career too. Some of us even have our degrees and I'm happy that I'm able to put it to use. I'm a better mom because I feel the worth of an outside the home job with the ability to be an available mom. It was great meeting you at the conference, glad you had such a good time, thanks for reaching out. Hope to see more of you in the Charlotte circles.

Re: Why Mom Bloggers Matter

Jason, you are right. It's community at its finest. A community that knows and understands each other almost instantaneously. A community that understands and trusts each other? But sometimes you do have to wonder about all the time spent sleeping that could be spent on something else. I guess that's why I am so often up in the middle of the night, capturing a good idea, reading or solving a nagging problem.

Re: Tired? I remember when I came into a store recently to sign up for a business account (after dropping thousands on a new MacBook Pro and monitor) and you personally introduced yourself. Not only that, but you had actually read my blog and knew who I was. Needless to say, that was flattering. Plus the service as usual was stellar and you guys put me to the front of the line and got me in "back to work" the next day.
